Staring at a squirrel

Posted on 16th Apr 2014 at 1:16 PM from Priory Park, Warwick

This morning I took PatchDog to the local park just like I do most mornings. He loves to chase the squirrels that inhabit the park even though he is nothing like fast enough to catch one.

Today there were several squirrels on the ground and just right for chasing but PatchDog was taking no notice. Instead he was stood at the bottom of a tree staring up at a squirrel that was about 8 feet up the tree staring down at him. They both knew that Patch cannot climb trees and cannot jump 8 feet high so, barring the highly unlikely situation of the squirrel falling out of the tree, there was no way he was going to get to chase this particular animal.

While he was gazing intently at the squirrel up the tree others were running around on the grass and were available for the chasing. But he missed out because he was looking longingly at one thing that was out of reach. Therefore he missed out altogether.

PatchDog was doing exactly what many people do. He was so intent on one little thing that, for the time being was out of reach, that he totally failed to notice the other opportunities that were right in front of him. Sometimes it is better to accept that something is out of reach and move on to look for other options...if PatchDog had done that he would have chased some squirrels this morning instead of spending most of the time looking up a tree longingly.

Most people have a few bad habits that don't always serve them or help them achieve and everyone knows how difficult it is to change.

Ian has outlined a simple and effective way to replace bad habits with good success habits which will help those that follow it achieve their goals.
